reasons to be happy

I suppose I should have done the obligatory birthday post upon turning 30, but it came and went before I could record my thoughts. I also neglected to do my 1-year-in-New-York post, too, and I just submitted our lease renewal again. I’m losing track of time.

Life has been busy and satisfying recently. Perhaps a bit too busy, but I really can’t complain, truly. I hardly had a chance to think about turning 30, and then it happened and suddenly I was ok with it. I only cried once that day, and barely for a minute, and not because of my age. I think I was fighting with our printer and working against a tight deadline.

My birthday turned out to be quite a fine one. A very good friend sent me flowers, and my parents made a big deal of it. They sent me flowers, and email, a card, a very generous check, and called me. I relayed that I have been ignoring birthdays. And other days of celebration, but I think I have decided to change my ways. It was so wonderful to have people think of me and send cards and well wishes via Facebook. I liked that everyone made a big deal of the occasion. In future, I will endeavor to acknowledge birthdays and any other cause for celebration, loudly and with enthusiasm.

Life otherwise has been packed to the brim with work and adrenaline. We have been overworked for weeks, if not months, but it has finally yielded positive results for our bottom line. The work is interesting, and we’re actually making money. I couldn’t be more thrilled about how the business is proceeding. I hope we get a chance to breathe next month, but it has all been worth it.

Yes, gentle readers, life is good right now. Very, very busy, but also very, very good.

Loved taking you out to breakfast and hearing about your satisfaction with where you are now. Life really opens up when we greet it with joy. That’s my next ‘self improvement’ task–going for the joy.
